15 things you can Send to Penpals

Mail Tag

A Mail Tag is a list of questions you can send to your penpals to get to know them better. The idea of a mail tag is that you ask them questions then like tag, It’s their turn to ask you questions! Such questions can be anything from what’s your favorite color to if you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

Playlist

A playlist would be list of song recommendations for your friend to listen to. Sometimes people choose to do a themed playlist with themes that reflect holidays, seasons, moods, or activities. Examples of these could be: Christmas, Summer, Calm, Wake-up, Road trip, Workout, Etc.

Stickers

I know we were meant to outgrow our sticker obsessions but a lot of us haven’t. Sending sheets of stickers, laptop stickers, or little stickers to you penpals is a fun little extra to brighten their day! This is also a good way to share something you have extras of and receive new things in the mail for you to use in journals, mail art, or other sorts of decoration!

Tea Bags

A fun thing to receive in the mail (or at all) are sealed tea bags. Trying new flavors without having to purchase 18-20 bags of it. Trading unique flavors that are unique to different areas is also a way to share some of your culture or a bit about where your from.

Ephemera

If you don’t already know ephemera is usually paper items that are used or enjoyed only for a short period of time. Many people collect vintage or sometimes not vintage ephemera. These items can be old magazine ads, old tickets, playing cards, old ledgers, maps, etc. Probably one of the better examples of one mans trash is another mans treasure!

Sticky Notes

Sticky notes can be used in a veriaty of ways from decorating journals to adding a bit of color to your school notes. Sending decorative or cute designed sticky notes is not uncommon when sending out penpal letters!

Memo Sheets

Whether it be from a note pad you have lying around the house or a cute kawaii memo pad you use just for special occasions, receiving sheets of memo paper is a useful and fun little extra to receive! It can be used for to do lists, future penpal letters, playlists, or even in journals!

Washi Samples

Sending your penpals small 12″ or more samples of washi tapes on a playing card or tag is a cute and useful surprise! In addition to being used as samples to send penpals, washi can also be used to decorate the letter, playlist, and envelope! Again, Washi tape is so much fun to receive in letters as it prevents having to purchase the entire roll when you may just want an inch or two.

Drawings or Small Pieces of Art

Share some of your art with you penpal friend by sending a small drawing or even painting! You can send anything from characters you’ve drawn to landscapes you’ve seen! Sharing your art is a good way to get to know each other especially if art is a big part of what you like to do or who you are!

Pressed Flowers or Leaves

Depending on the season, sending flowers or leaves you’ve pressed is a nice way to share a bit of your home with your penpal! It’s especially nice of you send leaves or flowers that are not accessible where your penpal lives! Simply place some pretty flowers or leaves between the pages of a large book and wait for them to flatten. Then, once they have, add them to your letter as an extra!

Photos

Send photos of your pets, home, local attractions, things you mention in your letter, or something else you may have in common. For example, sending photo cards of Kpop Idols is very popular among Kpop penpals. Or if you talk  a lot about your pet, send a picture so your penpal knows who you are talking about!

Coloring Page

Coloring, whether for an adult or a child is a calming exercise. So sending a page from your favorite coloring book is a welcomed gift and fun activity to provide your penpal friend.

Book Mark

Anyone who is a book lover has faced the dilemma of not wanting to harm the book in anyway by bending over the corner. Help add to your penpals collection or solve their moral dilemma over dog earring the corners by providing them with a bookmark. It can be homemade or purchased!

Favorite Quote or Poem

A lot of penpal-ers enjoy practicing their lettering or handwriting. There is no better way than to practice your calligraphy than to draw your favorite quote or poem to send to your penpal! Not only can the words inspire your penpal, but the beauty of the drawing can as well! Sharing your favorite poem or quote also can share a lot about yourself with your penpal!

Postcards

Rather than sending a postcard stamped and written on, many prefer to collect blank postcards to either add to their collection or to send themselves. By adding one to your letter is a great way to share some of you home or trips with your penpal. If not sent in your letter its also a fun thing to send by itself!
